Joint and Cognate Honours

It is possible to do a joint honours course.

  • The program has to be approved by both of the discipline groups concerned and the Faculty.

  • Students are expected to have taken an absolute minimum of 18 points from each of the two disciplines to qualify for joint honours (some disciplines may require more).

  • Students wishing to undertake a smaller amount of study in a second discipline during their honours year may be eligible for a cognate honours program.

Students who do not meet the standard requirements may still apply for admission to honours, but a special case needs to be made.

Enrolment Process (ongoing UWA students)

  1. Discuss your honours eligibility and proposed program of study with the honours coordinator during the enrolment period
  2. Go to student connect and complete honours online application form.
  3. Discipline approves or rejects the application and informs the Faculty. Faculty assesses eligibility including marks for the current semester's units
  4. Approved applications are sent to Student Administration who send out ‘Conditional Offers to Enrol’ (conditional to the student completing their final semester at an appropriate level for example). This letter informs the student that if they meet the conditions attached to their offer letter they can accept the offer and enrol online. If the student has no conditions then an ‘Unconditional Offer to Enrol’ is sent and they can immediately enroll online using Student Connect
  5. Ineligible students will be informed by the Faculty

How to apply for honours if you've previously studied elsewhere:

STEP 1: Download and read the Honours 2010 information sheet and complete the application form.

STEP 2: Contact the School in which you're interested (See Faculty links below for a list of the schools). Many Schools have Honours Co-ordinators who can advise you on supervision, entry requirements, etc. Your honours application will remain incomplete if you fail to make contact with the appropriate UWA School.

STEP 3: Ensure that the School Honours Coordinator/ Head of School completes and signs the relevant section (ONLY THE SCHOOL DECISION SECTION) of your application form.

STEP 4: Submit your school-endorsed application form along with original or properly-certified copies of your academic transcripts to the ADMISSIONS CENTRE (located at Hacket Hall) as soon as possible.
